Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is convinced the long-term future of the club is secure despite their early season setbacks.
The Latics shipped ten goals in their first two Premier League games, four to new boys Blackpool and six to champions Chelsea.
However,k they unexpectedly overturned Tottenham 1-0 at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Martinez told the club's website: "It was a well-deserved victory, and to say that is compliment enough, but when you look at the results that Spurs have had over the last 18 or 19 games, then it is an exceptional result.
“It wasn't a fluke, it didn't have anything to do with luck: we deserved it.
"It shows you that the character is there, the determination is there, and the desire to correct things is there.
“It is these ingredients that allow you to reach your potential and reach for the aims that we've got for the season."
"At the end of the season, if we fulfil our potential, then we will see the dressing room growing and playing good football, and we will be exciting our fans, and that's the most important thing."
