Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez praised his players fore their do-or-die performance over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane yesterday.
The Latics shocked a strangely lethargic Spurs side with a 1-0 victory courtesy of striker Hugo Rodallega ten minutes from time.
The Latics defence had conceded nine goals in the corresponding fixture last season but they expertly shut out Harry Redknapp’s men.
Martinez enthused: “The type of performance we had was really of a group of players really committed. They were prepared to give their lives for each other.”
“(In previous matches) we were missing that togetherness, that team spirit,” he said.
“But today, everyone will agree that we had that in abundance.”
