
Wigan Athletic have stolen Manchester United youngster Tom Cleverley from under the noses of Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
It was widely expected that Cleverley would either be heading to the Reebok Stadium or St James’s Park.
However, the latics have stolen a march on both to land the highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder.
It is understood he is set to complete his loan move – believed to be 12 months – within the next few days.
Sır Alex Ferguson is said to have recommended the Latics as a good club to spend time at given the style of football adopted under Roberto Martinez.
Cleverley has impressed on United's pre-season tour of the United States and scored a superb individual goal against the MLS All-Stars in Houston.
The move is likely to last for twelve months.
