Wigan Athletic midfielder Olivier Kapo is to head back home to France.
The Frenchman was signed by former manager Steve Bruce in 2008 but has made just one appearance as a second-half substitute under current boss Roberto Martinez.
He was loaned out to French side Boulogne in January.
Boulogne were relegated from Ligue 1 last season, but Kapo hopes his performances will persuade another top flight French team to sign him.
"I just want to play football at this stage in my career," said Kapo. "It's good to be back at Wigan, and I have enjoyed seeing everyone again.
"I kept in touch with a few of the players like Momo (Diame) and Charles (N'Zogbia) while I was away in France.
"But I know my ability and I need to be playing first-team football."
Martinez confirmed that Kapo would be leaving the club, highlighting a return to his homeland as his priority.
"Olivier has expressed a desire to play in France, and we will not try and change his mind," Martinez told the Wigan Observer.
