Daniel De Ridder wants assurances from Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez that he is in his plans for next season.
The Dutch midfielder failed to make a single appearance for the Latics last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
He is now back at the DW Stadium and has said if he does not believe Martinez is willing to give him a starting role next season he will look to move on.
De Ridder said: "I would love to stay here at Wigan, but only if I am playing regularly.
"That's what every player wants and that's my only goal at the moment.
"I will be speaking to Roberto and whatever comes out of that chat will make the situation a bit clearer for myself.
"Then we'll make the right decision for all parties.
"The career of a footballer is so short and I cannot waste any more time. That's my feeling.
"If I'm not going to be playing then I hope that the manager will be honest about it, and I think that he will be."
