Martinez’s team lost 9-1 at Tottenham and 8-0 at Chelsea last season.
He said: “Football is a matter of opinions, but I’m very stubborn in my ways and I would rather die on my feet than walk on my knees.
I’m very clear in what I want to do and the way I want to play and I will never change that. But the chairman’s opinion is something I will always listen to.”
Whelan had said: “Roberto wants to play a certain type of football, but sometimes it doesn’t get success.”
Martinez responded: “I have never had any interference from the chairman.
