Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is still considering his options over who to replace Mario Melchiot as captain.
Melchiot, Titus Bramble and Paul Scharner all wore the armband at one point or another last season and the latter has since left the club.
Martinez has admitted it will be a tough decision.
He told the club’s official website: "We haven't decided upon that yet, it's something we'll be looking into over the next few weeks.
"There are a few strong characters in the dressing room, good leaders which will develop nicely throughout pre-season.
"It has to be a figure that is respected by the group and who will lead them. It's a kind of natural selection and one of the easiest selections you'll see in the dynamics of a dressing room."
