According to reports former Wigan Athletic midfielder Paul Scharner is a target for Liverpool FC.

Scharner is available on a free transfer after deciding his time with the Latics had come to an end.

New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has been an admirer of the Austrian international and sought to take him to Craven Cottage when in charge of Fulham.

It seems Hodgson’s interest has not waned following his move to Anfield and is now hoping to bring him to Merseyside.

Scharner wants to stay in the Premier League and would certainly jump at the chance of playing for a big club.

However, it seems Hodgson will face competition from Aston Villa.

Woy may have looked at him for Fulham, but he's at a big club now, no need to look at the bargain basement dross.

Scharner will be an asset to any premier league team as he is so versatile. He did very well for us and I personally wish him every success
