Portsmouth FC defender Lenny Sowah is reportedly a target for Wigan Athletic.

The Daily Mail claims Latics boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to profit from Portsmouth's parlous financial state and snap up the teenager.

The Germany Under-18 defender Sowah, 17, made five Premier League appearances last season.

However, he has failed to report back for training due to a dispute over unpaid bonuses and martinez is ready to step in if the youngster decides he wants away.

Martinez was impressed by the 17-year-old in the Latics’ goalless draw with Portsmouth last season.

Portsmouth would demand a training compensation fee but may only receive £500,000.
