Antolin Alcaraz has insisted he is content with his decision to join Wigan Athletic after he came to the notice of the wider football world with his goal against Italy in the World Cup.
The defender headed his country ahead against the current world champions to set up a potential shock in the opening game of Group F.
However, he and his compatriots had to settle for a draw when the Italians levelled through Daniele De Rossi.
Nevertheless, Alcaraz did not allow the disappointment to mar his own achievement.
“It's the most beautiful day of my life,” he said.
He insists he has no regrets about signing with Wigan rather than waiting to put himself in the shop window in South Africa.
He added: “I have a good contract with Wigan, I'm glad I'm going to the Premier League.
“I talked to the coach Roberto Martinez and have a good feeling so I don't doubt my choice now.”
