Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan has insisted he has total confidence in manager Roberto Martinez.
He has revealed he is pleased with the job the Spaniard is doing.
He said: "When I appointed Roberto as manager I predicted big things for him.
"He's on course in my view to be one of the best managers in the Premier League and then could really go on to even greater things.
"Managing at this level has been new to him but he realises the power and the standard of the Premier League and is doing a great job."
Wigan turn their attentions to this weekend's big derby clash with Bolton after beating Liverpool on Monday night.
Latics keeper Chris Kirkland believes the win over the Merseyside giants will prove a timely tonic for Wigan.
"We are still in a tough position but the win against Liverpool gives us a little bit of breathing space and we now have to push on.
"All the lads were magnificent from the first minute until the last and we frustrated Liverpool for the whole game.
"We had to get a positive result and we managed to do that."
