Liverpool FC’s assistant boss Sammy Lee has revealed he is an admirer of Roberto Martinez’s approach at Wigan Athletic.

The Reds make the trip to the DW Stadium to face the Latics tomorrow night still seeking the fourth Champions League spot.

"Wigan are very organised under Martinez and he's got them trying to play football," said Lee.

"They've got pace about them all over the park and it'll be a game we'll have to be very, very careful in. We'll have to try not to get caught on the counter-attack, be organised, finish (chances) and not allow them a chance to come back at us."

The clash will see the league's two Spanish managers, Rafael Benitez and Martinez, lock horns - and Lee feels the Iberian pair share comparable footballing philosophies.

He told liverpoolfc.tv: "I think they're close and they've got similar principals about how football should be played, so that's why I think it'll be a very good game with two organised sides looking to go forward without the direct play we've seen in recent weeks. It will be an interesting game."
