Wigan Athletic youngster James McCarthy has sought to pour water on the fires concerning Liam Ridgewell's tackle on him last Saturday.
McCarthy limped off after the Birmingham City defender tackled him during the Blues’ 1-0 win at St Andrews.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez was left fuming by the tackle describing it as a 'leg-breaking challenge'.
Ridgewell escaped action from the Football Association after referee Anthony Taylor decided it did not merit any action.
McCarthy, who made his Republic of Ireland debut in midweek against Brazil, was refusing to get involved in a war of words with Ridgewell over the challenge.
"It was a bit of a lunge, but to be honest these things happen," McCarthy told skysports.com.
"Somebody texted me about it last week, but these things happen and you just need to get on with it.
"He caught my ankle, but I am not going to get involved in a war with him."
