West Bromwich Albion have signed Wigan Athletic midfielder Ben Watson on loan for the remainder of the season.

Watson has struggled to feature for the Latics and spent some time at Queens Park Rangers earlier in the campaign.

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo is pleased to secure the 24-year-old’s services.

"Having lost Gonzalo Jara for the remainder of the season to injury, we have been looking to strengthen the central midfield area and we are very pleased that Ben has joined us," Di Matteo told the club's official website.

"Ben is very good technically and is a competitive player who knows the Championship very well.

"He has played many times at this level and knows what is required, which should help him to hit the ground running."

Watson will not be eligible for West Brom's FA Cup fifth-round replay against Reading on Wednesday, but is in contention for Saturday's Championship game against Derby County.
