Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton is not planning a loan move for Wigan Athletic's out-of-favour midfielder Jason Koumas.

Hughton's Wigan counterpart Roberto Martinez is prepared to let Koumas head out on loan and has received interest from two Championship teams.

Koumas' former club West Brom have held talks over a deal, while promotion rivals Newcastle had been linked with a bid.

However, Hughton was surprised to learn of the Magpies' alleged interest in the 30-year-old and has been quick to dismiss talk of a deal.

"There is nothing in that one," Hughton told the Evening Chronicle.

"When I saw that we had been linked that was honestly the first I knew about it.

"He's a good player, but not one that I think will be coming here."
