Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has revealed he is not negotiating any new contracts until he feels the club are safe from relegation.

Rumours have circulated that Paul Scharner and Mario Melchiot are looking for new deals but Roberto Martinez is concentrating solely on keeping the Latics in the Premier League.

Martinez said: "At the moment we are speaking with everyone as I like the players to know our views to their careers.

“But everyone knows their careers have been put on hold.

"What is more important is Wigan Athletic. The next six or seven weeks are vital for us.

"Our focus is on that. As soon as we get through that period all the individual players' futures can be looked at."
