According to reports former Wigan Athletic striker Marlon King is eyeing an early release from prison and a return to football.

King was jailed for 18 months last October for sexually assaulting and causing actual bodily harm to a woman in December 2008.

The forward, who had 13 previous convictions, was immediately sacked by the Latics.

But the Daily Mirror claims 29-year-old King intends to resume his professional career once he is released.

It seems he is hoping an imminent hearing will enable him to return to football in the London area on strict conditions in the near future.

King will be available on a free transfer.
