According to reports Newcastle United are looking to snatch Wigan Athletic midfielder Jason Koumas from under the noses of West Bromwich Albion.

The Sun claims the Welsh midfielder has been told he can leave Wigan on loan and former club Albion want him back.

But it seems Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is also keen on the 30-year-old to help boost their Championship title challenge.

Although the transfer window has closed, loan moves to the Football League are still allowed and Martinez has admitted a move could happen.

"We have had clear interest from two teams for Jason," said the Wigan boss. "I think Jason probably needs that, he needs to play games.

"He has been in a mode over the last three years where he hasn't played enough football.

"It would probably be a good opportunity for Jason to regain that match fitness, so we will see how that develops, but for the moment there is nothing to mention."
