The pitch conditions at Wigan Athletic’s DW Stadium have again been criticised following the 0-0 draw between the Latics and Bolton.
Wanderers boss Owen Coyle was critical of the surface, admitting it fell way below the standard associated with the Premier League.
But he added that he expected his players to play the best way they could in the tough conditions.
"It has got to be said both teams were doing their utmost on a difficult pitch to try to make it a real Premier League game,” Coyle said.
"It is always going to be difficult if there is rugby played at the level we are at, it is the best league in the world.
"Obviously the pitch wasn't conducive to free-flowing football but we got on as you have to and made the most of it."
