Wigan Athletic starlet James McCarthy is at the centre of an international tug-of-war.
McCarthy is wanted by Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.
Scotland manager Craig Levein has held preliminary talks aimed at trying to get the ex-Hamilton ace to switch allegiances.
But Latics boss Roberto Martinez has told McCarthy to come to his own decision.
Martinez said: "I spoke to James and told him he should not listen to anyone. You need to listen to your feeling about where you want to be playing.
"The moment you allow people to influence your decision, you are going to make a wrong decision."
