It is reported that Wigan Athletic will face competition from Fulham FC for the services of Sporting Gijon full-back Roberto Canella.

The News of the World claims Wigan are considering a £4 million bid for Canella.

The move is in response to Sunderland attempts to lure Maynor Figueroa to the Stadium of Light, although the club is desperately fighting against any such deal taking place.

The paper says that Canella – a Spain Under-21 international – has been watched three times by Fulham scouts.

It seems that Gijon have a replacement lined up at the club should Canella leave which makes a move more likely.
