Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan says the club would not stand in Charles N'Zogbia's way if a top six club came in for him.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez has likened the former Newcastle United midfielder to Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
And Whelan says: "You can't stop a lad going to the top six teams and I'd never do that. There are two or three lads who'll go to big clubs.
"Roberto inherited an iffy squad. I know Steve Bruce has questioned my comments but he did.
"The worst one was Marlon King, the lad who went to prison. We paid £3million for him. I didn't like him and don't think we should have signed a player of that calibre."
