Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes that his squad needs strengthening in all areas.
He is therefore planning to enter the transfer market in the current transfer window in readiness for the crucial second half of the season.
He told the Wigan Evening Post: "The amount of recruiting will depend on many aspects.
"But we are looking to strengthen in all areas of the field.
"Possibilities always present themselves in January - that is the nature of the transfer window. It is never the easiest time of year to find solutions to your problems.
"But we will carry on working as hard as we possibly can to make sure we strengthen the squad to take Wigan Athletic forward to the next level."
He added: "I can guarantee that whatever happens, we will end January with a stronger squad of players than we had at the beginning of the month.
"And that's what you have to do in every window."
