Wigan Athletic defender Titus Bramble admits the players had plenty of incentive to put in a performance against Sunderland at the weekend.
After the 9-1 drubbing at Tottenham last weekend, the Latics gave the home fans the perfect tonic by beating Sunderland 1-0.
The victory was made more the sweeter as it was the first return to the DW Stadium for ex-Wigan boss Steve Bruce following he departure for Wearside in the summer.
Latics centre-back Titus Bramble said: "It was embarrassing. We had to show a response and we did.
"We defended a lot better and kept a clean sheet, which was pleasing for the whole team."
Hugo Rodallega grabbed Wigan's winner and manager Roberto Martinez said: "Hugo works extremely hard for the team. He got the right reward, it was a clinical finish and he is a magical player.
"I don't think we should single anyone out. Jason Scotland worked very hard, he did a job you don't often see because he is away from the ball and he was unfortunate he hit the post."
