Sunderland to sell to land Wigan’s Figueroa

It is reported that Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will sell players in order to bring Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa to the Stadium of Light.

The Sun claims that they are to offload defender Anton Ferdinand with Tottenham being a likely destination.

The Sun says Bruce needs to fund a joint £12m raid for the talented Wigan defender and Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson.

It seems Bruce will make a £5million raid for the Honduran who he brought to the Latics during his time as manager there.

Given the connection, it is possible the player may also be keen on the move.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez does not want to lose Figueroa – who is currently out of action with a knee ligament injury – but it is believed he has begun searching for a possible replacement.
