Latics boss Roberto Martinez believes his side's morale will not disintegrate inthe same way they did against Tottenham at the weekend.
Wigan had managed to claw their way back into the game after Tottenham had taken early lead and no doubt held high hopes of drawing level in the second half.
The reality could not have been starker in contrast. Tottenham sprinted out of the blocks and before Martinez’s knew where they were, the match had ended in a humiliating 9-1 debacle.
Asked on BBC Sport if the players’ confidence had been dealt a major blow, he retorted: “No. We need to understand why the result happened and, when you do that, in a way you become stronger.
“It’s a unique test. You don’t get many situations like this. But the reality is that we lost the game, nothing else, and we need to make sure that in the next home game we react we’re back to winning ourselves.
“In football you’re gonna win, you’re gonna draw, you’re gonna lose and the way it is we lost a football game.
“There’s nothing to do about the result and the performance today. The result, there are many reasons why it happened, and it’s for us to know and make the sure the reaction is there next week.”
