Preston boss Phil Brown has warned talented midfielder Adam Barton to take his time before deciding on his international future.
The highly-rated 20-year-old turned out for Northern Ireland against Morocco five months ago before appearing for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side in their 2-0 defeat to Portugal last Friday.
But with both games only being friendly fixtures, Barton has yet to commit his future to either nation, with Brown believing that he should not rule out the opportunity of representing England.
Brown said: "Adam played for the Republic of Ireland last week and from what I've been told, did very well.
"But my advice as his club manager - and it's only my opinion - is that he shouldn't rush into anything.
"Adam is an Englishman and at his age still has time on his side when it comes to which country he plays for."
