Preston North End have terminated the contract of Callum Davidson with immediate affect.
Davidson's contract was due to run out in June this year, but Phil Brown has decided to end his stay at Deepdale now.
Davidson, a former Scotland international, has been a great servant to North End since joining from Leicester City on a free transfer in July 2004.
The versatile player made a big impact at Deepdale and was a consistent performer for the Lilywhites. His presence at left back, and even in central midfield has been valuable for Preston, but he was also able to make a valuable contribution as a goalscorer.
Following close friend Graham Alexander's departure to Burnley in August 2007, Davidson took over spot kick duties and was hugely successful, boasting a sensational conversion rate.
The 2007/08 season saw Davidson amass 43 appearances for the Lilywhites, bagging four goals in his first season on penalty duties.
The following season, despite a campaign affected by injury, Davidson picked up the accolade of Supporters Club Player of the Year.
In his overall time with Preston, Davidson has chipped in with 22 goals from left back, and the Scotsman was to receive another honour in July 2009, after taking over the Captaincy from Paul McKenna who departed for Nottingham Forest.
In other news, North End goalkeeper Iain Turner has extended his loan spell at Deepdale for another month from Premier League outfit Everton.
Turner said: "I am delighted about the extension because all I wanted to do was play games and I have been given the opportunity here.
"Hopefully now I can get a couple of wins under my belt as well. It is a bit stop start this month because of the international break and then we have three games close together.
"It is a good team, an experienced team, a talented team and with a bit more luck and a bit more determination we will get there."
