Preston have agreed an emergency loan deal with Everton to bring in young goalkeeper Iain Turner.

Manager Phil Brown is keen to provide cover for Andy Lonergan and sees the 27-year-old shot-stopper as the perfect fit.

The former Stirling Albion keeper has played only four competitive games for the Merseyside club since his move in 2003. He has previously had loan spells with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Coventry.

North End chairman Maurice Lindsay has confirmed that as part of the agreement Andy Lonergan will train with Everton occasionally while staying a Preston player.

"Phil Brown wanted competition for Andrew Lonergan for the goalkeeper's position,"

"We agreed a deal with Everton for Iain Turner and will take him on a 93-day loan.

"During the discussions with David Moyes, it was suggested that Andrew could train at Everton two or three times a week to give him some freshness.

"That will happen, but he won't be leaving our register and we will continue paying his salary."
