Preston North End have signed striker Eddie Johnson on loan from Fulham until the end of the season.
Johnson is the third forward to join Preston under Phil Brown after the club were able to secure the services of the American international from the Cottagers, who paid £3million to acquire his services from Kansas City Wizards.
The 26-year-old was one of the youngest players to play in the MLS and has also been a hit on the international scene, continuing to hold the record as the only USA player ever to score a hat trick after coming off of the bench in an international match.
The American has been handed the number 27 shirt at Preston North End.
Speaking about his latest signing, manager Phil Brown said: "He has been renowned for goalscoring at many levels. Unfortunately though, his chances to do so in the Premier League have been few and far between.
"We have monitored Eddie since the start of January when I received the text message saying that he was available. We just had to sit back and watch people come and go, as it were, and see opportunities for strikers coming and going.
"Fortunately, all of the ducks were in line to sign Eddie before the deadline closed."
Brown believes that Johnson brings a new dimension up front for the Lilywhites and is happy with his options in the forward areas.
The Preston manager said: "It is a different dimension, with pace and strength being in the side, whether it is in the middle or from wide areas.
"Leon Clarke brings that to the table, Nathan Ellington when he has full match fitness brings that to the table as well as Iain Hume's sharpness.
"Eddie is the next level up with his pace, so hopefully this will cause defenders problems at this level."
