Preston North End have agreed a deal with Barnsley for the permanent transfer of striker Iain Hume.

The Canadian frontman, has made a significant impact on loan at Deepdale this season, will join the Lilywhites for an undisclosed fee.

North End chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "It has been obvious for some time we have wanted to make Iain's move to Deepdale a permanent one.

"During his emergency loan spell Iain's effervescent qualities and energy brought something different to our squad.

"I am delighted we have been able to come to a financial agreement with Barnsley and Iain himself.

"We cannot complete the paperwork on the deal until New Year's Day, however we have finalised arrangements now in order to make sure Iain is available for us for the trip to Crystal Palace on Monday."

North End midfielder Richard Chaplow has gone in the opposite direction and left the club after he made his loan move at Southampton a permanent one.
