Darren Ferguson has confirmed Sheffield Wednesday have enquired about North End defender Sean St Ledger.
St Ledger was left out of Preston's matchday squad for Tuesday's defeat by Middlesbrough, sparking rumours over his future at Deepdale.
Reports have claimed that West Brom have lined up a £2million bid for St Ledger, who has not featured for Preston for over a month.
Lilywhites boss Ferguson confirmed his predecessor Alan Irvine had shown an interest in taking the Republic of Ireland international to Hillsborough.
"I've heard the rumours that Sean is on his way, but he's no different than anyone else," said Ferguson in the Lancashire Evening Post.
"He has accepted that Leon Cort and Wayne Brown have come in and done really well.
"Sean was complaining about a sore knee and groin in training on Monday, although he did do the full session.
"I had a decision to make and I made it. He is no different than anyone else in that he has to fight his way back into the team.
"We have had one enquiry for Sean, from Sheffield Wednesday, but that's it."
