Spanish midfielder Jonathan Aspas has started a trial with Preston North End this week.

The 28-year-old, who is a former Celta Vigo player most recently plied his trade at Belgium side Mouscron.

Aspas' agent Rui Alves hopes the player will make an impact on manager Darren Ferguson during his time with the Lilywhites.

Alves said: "I believe this is the kind of player Preston need to reinforce themselves with experience, good team spirit and hard work for the team."

"Hopefully Jonathan will convince Darren Ferguson in the next few weeks."

In other news, North End are hopeful of extending the loan deals of Stoke City duo Michael Tonge and Danny Pugh. Manager Darren Ferguson admitted:

"If I could buy them both I would. They are very good players."

"They give you solid performances week-in, week-out and that's what we need right now. I'll be speaking to Tony."
