Preston North End central defender Neal Trotman has joined former club Oldham Athletic on an emergency loan deal until January 3rd.

Trotman, joined North End from the Latics back in 2008 for £500,000, but was placed on the transfer list by manager Darren Ferguson in the summer.

Trotman, who has had recent loan spells with Southampton, Colchester United and Huddersfield Town, will be eligible to play for Oldham away at Rochdale on Saturday.

The 26 year old told Oldham’s website: "I hoped Darren Ferguson would give me a chance, but it didn't happen."

"It should not be hard to settle as a lot of the players and staff are still here from my first spell."

The defender added: "I was left twiddling my thumbs and need to be playing, which is why I was happy to join the Latics."

"This is where it all started after I was released by Burnley at the age of 18, and I still look for their results every week."
