Preston North End manager Darren Ferguson has confirmed he will not be pursuing Macclesfield Town striker John Rooney.
The teenager – who is the brother of Manchester United superstar Wayne - scored twice for Preston in a practice game against Wrexham towards the end of last season.
However, while he impressed the North End manager during the match, no future offer is to be made.
Ferguson told the Lancashire Evening Post: "John came here and did really well in a match.
"But at the moment we won't be taking that one further."
Rooney is out of contract at Macclesfield at the end of the month.
