Preston North End manager Darren Ferguson described last night’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday as ‘awful’ as his side surrendered a 2-0 lead.

For ex-Preston boss Alan Irvine it was the perfect way to commemorate his first return to Deepdale since being sacked by the Lilywhites last year.

Ferguson was unhappy with the way his side let the three points slip away.

He said: "It was an awful result. We were 2-0 up and cruising, and then I just don't know what happened to be honest.

"We lost two really poor goals and it took us a while to get going again, probably until the last 15 minutes. When you're 2-0 up you expect to win a game.

"Andy lets in a complete howler and goals do change games. I just felt we lacked composure when they got the first goal. It's two points dropped and a really disappointing result."
