Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson has returned to former club Peterborough United to sign Tom Williams on loan.

Ferguson has been searching for a new left-back and he has brought in Williams as a stop-gap.

Williams has been in and out of the Peterborough side this season and recently spent two months at QPR but will provide cover at Deepdale for injured skipper Callum Davidson.

On Williams Ferguson said: "He gives us that balance we've been looking for down the left-hand side as he is naturally left footed.

"We have been playing right-footed players on the left-hand side and whilst the people who have been doing the job have done OK, Tom can give us that extra balance.

"He knows the league, has good experience, he is quick and has good size. He is with us on loan and we will see how it goes."

Williams is set to go straight into the Preston squad for Tuesday night's trip to Derby.
