Preston North End have agreed to end club captain, Ian Ashbee's contract and he has left Deepdale.

The 35-year-old midfielder has only made seven starts and four substitute appearances this season following a persistent knee injury.

His last game for the club was November’s away defeat to Bury.

Ashbee was re-united 12 months ago with former North End boss Phil Brown after the two worked together at Hull City.

PNE chairman Peter Ridsdale said: “We’ve come to an agreement with Ian. We wish him well.”
