Preston North End have signed Torquay United centre-back Chris Robertson and Cork City striker Graham Cummins for undisclosed fees, whilst Clarke Carlisle has joined Northampton Town.

Robertson, 25, was out of contract at Plainmoor in the summer.

He originally joined the Gulls in March 2007 from Sheffield United and went on to become the club's second-longest serving player playing 199 games.

Robertson looks like he will replace the outbound Clarke Carlisle who has had his season long loan from rivals Burnley terminated has has been snapped up by League Two Cobblers Northampton Town.

North End's other signing Graham Cummins, 24, scored 24 goals to help Cork lift the Irish title in 2011 and has been voted the Irish PFA's Player of the Year for the last two seasons.

Manager Graham Westley continues his re-generation of the club and has now signed seven players following the arrivals of Andrew Proctor, Jamie McAllister, Chris Holroyd, Alex Marrow and the loan signing of Arsenal youngster Rhys Murphy.

Meanwhile, striker Jake Jervis has returned to his parent club Birmingham after his short stint at Deepdale.
