Preston North End central defender Jamie McCombe has been recalled by Huddersfield Town which will come as a blow to North End's rejuvenated side.
The 28-year-old moved to Deepdale on an emergency loan deal towards the end of November and has since played five games, scoring once in the process.
During that period, McCombe was instrumental in North End conceding just two goals after striking up an impressive partnership with the returning Craig Morgan.
However temporary managers David Unsworth and Graham Alexander will have to make do without the defender after the Terriers took the decision to recall him.
In other news, chairman Peter Ridsdale is confident North End's managerial situation will be resolved in early New Year.
Graham Alexander and David Unsworth are currently in charge of the Lilywhites following the departure of Phil Brown a couple of weeks ago.
North End will enjoy a two-week break following their clash with Rochdale on January 2nd after which time Ridsdale hopes to have made a decision.
He told a BBC Radio Lancashire fans' forum: "We'll announce our arrangements by the time of the two-week enforced break.
"During that time we expect to say what will happen for the rest of the season, whether that be a current internal solution or an external solution."
He added: "We've had 25 people who have expressed an interest and have a CV worth looking at. We've had some quality applications and we have to get this decision right."
