Preston North End have turned down a £500,000 bid from Peterborough United for Paul Coutts.
It’s the second offer put in by Posh boss Darren Ferguson for their former midfielder who joined North End in January last year.
Preston boss Phil Brown said: “The chairman has told me that he rejected a bid in the region of £500,000 for Paul Coutts.
“To be fair, the chairman has taken a lot of stick and it hasn’t been comfortable with the amount of players that have gone through the exit door.
“Where Paul is concerned, he came into my office on Sunday after the Colchester game on Saturday having for me scored the goal of the season and pledged himself to Preston North End.”
Brown also revealed that he was hoping to loan Norwich City back Steven Smith.
The 26 year old former Rangers man was close to a permanent move to Aberdeen after spending the second half of the season on loan at the Scottish club.
Craig Brown, though, feared he would be priced out of a deal and North End are jump in.
Phil Brown is determined to strengthen his back line after a disappointing start to the season following the 4 - 2 home defeat to Colchester United.
