Preston North End have signed former Falkirk defender Brian McLean on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old has impressed on trial at Deepdale and featured in four of their pre-season encounters.

Speaking to the club's official website, Phil Brown said: "I think the versatility of Brian was the important part, his main position is centre back but he can also play at right and left back.

"He is a defensive minded player and he is the type of lad I can work with. He has got a voice, he has got an opinion and he has a little bit of experience in the Scottish Premier League. For me it was a welcome addition and Brian has definite attributes that we can work with.

"Now that Brian has accepted the deal I am looking to getting my teeth into working with him in a really tight back four."
