Owen Coyle has revealed his own experience at a cash-stricken club was the motivation to help Accrington Stanley out in tonight’s fund-raiser match.
Accrington travel to Turf Moor for a special fund-raiser match sanctioned by the FA, and Clarets boss Coyle has spoke of his days at a club with financial problems.
Coyle said: “Myself and Sandy (Stewart) played at Airdrieonians and had to sign month-to-month deals and finance was tight, so we know how hard it can be.
“That was another reason that, as a manager, if I was able to help out I was only too glad to do that.
I think it's important within football we stick together and try and help out.
“If we love football then regardless of what team you support you are a football lover. Accrington have been an integral part of English football and we want that to continue and any part we can play in helping them we are glad to do so."
Accrington need to raise £308,000 to avoid closure by HM and Customs, and all gate money received from tonight will be donated to the cause.
Coyle is planning on handing David Nugent a debut, as well as giving a start to Fernando Guerrero, and urged fans to come along to help raise the funds necessary;
“I would urge everybody to come along to support Accrington and our football club, to see some of our young players and David Nugent make his debut and let's get a big healthy crowd." He said.
Admission is pay on the gate with prices set at £10 for adults and £5 concessions.
