Megson ready to help relieve Pompey's defensive headaches

Bolton's Danny Shittu is one a number of targets for Portsmouth boss Paul Hart as he looks to shore up his defensive unit after having concentrated on bolstering his strikeforce.

Hart said: "I think I will have somebody (a defender) in but not for Sunday.

"I'm looking to bring in two at the back but one is more definite than the other.

"I have to bring some players in and if we get everyone we want, it will probably be more than we require.

"But given the position we've have been in, that would be a real comfort blanket to us."

Wanderers boss Gary Megson has agreed to allow the powerful Nigerian defender - who wants regular football ahead of next year's World Cup - to talk to other clubs, with Portsmouth one of the likely destinations.
