Ricketts looking forward to early return to KC

Sam Ricketts has spoken about his return to his old club Hull City.

The ex-Tiger spent three years at the KC Stadium before Gary Megson brought him to the Reebok in a £2.5million deal this summer.

He told Bolton News, “It’s a bit of a shock going back already.
“It has been nice to come to Bolton and see how much of a better club it is.

“Hull have come through the leagues and behind the scenes it is very different. Bolton have been in the Premier League for a good few years now — they have set up an infrastructure that is a lot better.

“There will be lots of people who want to say hello, I’m sure, but the important thing is that if I am going to enjoy this game, I’ll only enjoy it if I win. If you lose, it’s the worst place you want to be.”

Ricketts looks back at his time at Hull as his most successful to date.

“They were three progressive, successful years,” Ricketts said. “The club did grow a lot under the gaffer during that time and, as a player, I improved with every season and grew with the club.”

But the defender believes the club has some way to go to match the Reebok set-up.

“It will take years for them to catch up,” he said. “Bolton’s infrastructure and training ground is superb compared to Hull’s. They want to do that but it’s a case of time and money.

“They were trying to get a new training ground last year but I’m not too sure what has happened with it.

“If they stay in the Premier League for a good few years then it will work wonders for them. The amount of money available in this league, staying here is the only way to progress yourself to becoming a strong club.”
