Mixed fortunes for Lancashire clubs

With the start of the new football season less than a week away, some of the region's Premiership and Championship clubs were involved in pre-season friendlies.

Blackburn Rovers were pegged back on level terms against Sheffield Wednesday after Ryan Nelsen and Jason Roberts had opened the scoring for Rovers at Hillsborough.

David Edgar netted a consolation for Premiership new boys Burnley in their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Turf Moor.

Goals from Neil Mellor and a brace from Chris Brown gave Preston North End a 3-1 win away to Hibernian. Midfielder Richard Chaplow was also on the scoresheet at Easter Road after turning the ball into his own net.

Former Deepdale midfielder Simon Whaley scored the winner as Championship outfit Norwich City beat Wigan Athletic 3-2. The Latics had gone ahead through Charles N'Zogbia and Won-Hee Cho before the Canaries equalised courtesy of two goals by Canaries' striker Chris Martin.
