Jose Mourinho has revealed he would like to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager.

Ferguson has been in charge of United for 23 years, and former Chelsea boss Mourinho, has admitted he would like to take over the reins at Old Trafford once Ferguson steps down;

"I would consider going to Manchester United" said the Inter Milan manager.

"But United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson. If they do, then of course."

Mourinho left Chelsea in September 2007, and joined Inter in 2008, guiding the Italian's to a league title, but has always retained his love for English football;

"I like England, where the fans are very passionate and make the game a beautiful occasion with such an incredible atmosphere."

Mourinho famously dubbed himself 'The Special One' when he arrived at Chelsea in 2004, and during his three year spell he won two Premier League titles, the 2007 FA Cup, and the 2005 League Cup.

Asked about his departure from Chelsea, Mourinho likened it to a divorce;

"I had many conversations before Chelsea and I decided on a divorce.

"It was difficult for me because we loved each other but the relationship went in one direction and it was best for everyone."

However, in true 'Special One' style, the Portugese could not resist a final parting shot;

"Since I left I became a champion again but they have not been champions again. I keep on winning and they don't."
