Cycling star Jason Kenny was yesterday handed a fellowship at the University of Bolton.

Kenny, who struck gold at the Beijing Olympics alongside Chris Hoy and Jamie Staff, was granted an honorary Masters degree.

After receiving the award he told Bolton News: “It is a great honour and my mum is really proud.

“The whole day has been a bit surreal because earlier I watched Big Sam get his honorary doctorate on stage.

“The gown is a bit different to the usual cycling gear I am used to but it has been a great moment for me.”
