Ian Lear's try 10 minutes from time gave Macclesfield a win on the road at Lightfoot Green. A hard fought and physical encounter between two evenly matched teams was close throughout and either side could have come away with the points.
Macclesfield were on the score sheet first as Ross Winney continued his good form with the boot to convert from distance in difficult conditions. Marcus Jackson levelled the scores soon after but Winney landed his 2nd on 12 minutes to retake the lead.
The games first try went the way of Macclesfield, a line out close to the line was pushed over with Dan Baines touching down. Hoppers replied immediately with an almost identical try, a line out of there own was driven over to allow Lee Imiolek to score the first of his two tries, Jackson missed the conversion but added a penalty soon after to level the score.
Macclesfield again took the lead with there second try, a well worked line out move saw wing Fergus Mulcrone take an inside ball and slice through the Hoppers defence, Winney added the conversion, a Jackson penalty took the side in 14-18 at the break.
Hoppers started the second half brightly and soon had the lead, great work from wing Will Hughes to collect and offload in one movement allowed Imiolek in at the corner. Both sides landed a further penalty to set up a tense finish
Macclesfield winning try came from good work by full back John Lowdon whose great line through the Hoppers defence gave them great ball inside the 22 and when the ball was moved across the park, replacement Lear was on hand to score in the corner. Hopper's had chances to win at the end but were unable to capitalise on some good territory.
