Burnley FC have had a new bid for goalkeeper Lee Grant turned down by Sheffield Wednesday.

The latest offer is the third lodged by Clarets boss Brian Laws who is desperate to land cover for No 1 Brian Jensen given his failure to sign Newcastle United keeper Fraser Forster.

However, the bid is still not close enough to the Owls’ valuation of their stopper.

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine said: "It was an improved offer, but fell way short of what it would take for us to consider selling him."

Irvine still wants the keeper to stay and denied claims that former Wednesday loan player Nicky Weaver has been targeted as a replacement.
